We are looking for excellent content for the BBFF. All submissions must prominently feature bicycles, bicycle culture or be directly related to cycling. In addition, we want a solid local connection.
How it Works
- We compile the entire show onto a “BBFF DVD” so it plays easily with no errors
- Each presenter gets a copy of the entire program, or “BBFF DVD”
- Submissions must be in one of the preferred formats listed below so we can compile them
- Submissions must be received by 5 pm Sunday April 24, 2011
- The “BBFF DVD” will not, nor ever should be made available for sale or posted online
- We do not pay for submissions nor is there a fee to submit
- We reserve the right to use appropriate clips of your submissions to promote the Festival
- We do not permit additional public showings of the Festival
- We give one free admission ticket per accepted film
- We exchange a limited number of tickets for those who volunteer or sponsor the Festival
Submission Guidelines
- Shorter is better!
- Length from 10 sec. to 10 minutes. Longer submissions must be outstanding for consideration.
- Footage must be clear and steady (Hand-held and Helmet Cam footage should be kept to a minimum)
- Minimum resolution: 720 x 480 video with normalized audio
- Slideshows are accepted – please make sure it’s HD
- Respect all copyrights, as this is a public performance
Submission Format Preferences:
In order of preference:
- HD Video File for Mac – 1080×720 or 1920×1080 saved as Quicktime Movie in a) “Apple Intermediate” b) “DVCPRO” c) “H.264″ lossless or d) “Animation” codec with stereo audio. WARNING – Animation will make an enormous file! iMovie or Final Cut project files are acceptable, too. Copy this file to a DVD, USB drive or upload to our FTP
- HD Video File for Windows – 1080×720 or 1920×1080 saved as Windows Media saved as highest bitrate .wmv file
- Authored DVD or HD DVD – this is great for us to preview your work but not great for the final submission. See notes below.
- MPEG-2, DIVX and other older or highly compressed formats are not recommended
Techincal Tips
- iMovie or Final Cut Pro will be the best programs for Mac users
- Windows Movie Maker is okay but not great. Advanced users might want an Adobe product like Premiere.
- Picasa makes HD slideshows for free! It’s a little funky but it works.
- Standard DVDs are relatively low quality for the big screen and are difficult to re-compose for the evening’s program.
- Copy the high quality movie file to a USB drive or data DVD, don’t burn the movie as a stand-alone DVD
